Ted - I have no idea how accurate the wear indicator is on the rear brake. Having said that, the brake linings should last at least as long as a rear tyre(this is the correct spelling in England). You can inspect the brake linings when you have a new rear tyre after 5 to 8,000 miles. After 2,000 miles of normal riding, the brakes should be hardly worn.
